THRONE DAY: MOROCCO CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF HIS MAJESTY KING MOHAMMED VI’S REIGN

Morocco is preparing to celebrate Throne Day on July 30, marking the 25th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s ascension to the throne. This year’s event is particularly significant as it celebrates a quarter-century of visionary leadership, bold reforms, and significant progress under the Sovereign’s reign.

Since his accession to the throne in 1999, King Mohammed VI has embodied a model of modernity and development for the Kingdom. His Majesty has tirelessly worked towards the economic, social, and political transformation of the country while preserving its rich traditions and cultural identity.

An Impressive Economic Record

Under His Majesty’s reign, Morocco has experienced remarkable economic growth. Structural reforms have been implemented to diversify the economy, attract foreign investment, and modernize infrastructure. The development of key sectors such as renewable energy, the automotive industry, and aerospace has placed Morocco on the global map as a vital economic and industrial hub.

The ambitious project of the Tanger Med port, now one of the largest ports in Africa and the Mediterranean, perfectly illustrates this dynamic. This strategic infrastructure has not only strengthened Morocco’s position as a gateway to Africa but also boosted trade and employment in the region.

Social Reforms and Human Rights

King Mohammed VI has also emphasized social reforms and human rights, making Morocco a regional example of social progress. The reform of the Family Code in 2004, known as the Moudawana, was a major turning point for women’s rights in Morocco. This reform strengthened women’s rights in marriage, divorce, and child custody, contributing to the empowerment and autonomy of Moroccan women.

Furthermore, His Majesty has worked to promote human rights and social justice by establishing the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER) to address past abuses and creating mechanisms to protect citizens’ rights.

Visionary Leadership for Africa

King Mohammed VI has always had a clear vision of the importance of African integration. Under his reign, Morocco has strengthened its relations with many African countries, signing cooperation agreements in various fields such as agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure. Morocco’s return to the African Union in 2017 marked a decisive step in this dynamic, affirming the Kingdom’s desire to play a leading role in the continent’s development.

National and International Pride

Throne Day is not only an opportunity to celebrate past achievements but also to look to the future with optimism and determination. The Moroccan people express their loyalty and attachment to His Majesty King Mohammed VI while recognizing the challenges ahead and the need to continue efforts for a more prosperous and inclusive Morocco.

Internationally, King Mohammed VI’s leadership is praised for its wisdom, moderation, and progressive vision. Under his direction, Morocco continues to play a key role in regional and international affairs, promoting peace, stability, and cooperation among nations.
